How do I take out an Appliance Protection Policy?

After you’ve purchased a product from us, we’ll be in touch to offer you an Appliance Protection Policy. Our Protection Policy doesn’t have to be bought at the same time as you buy an electrical appliance or product, you can take out a policy up to one month after you’ve bought your product. Or, you can purchase it within one month of the expiry of your manufacturer's guarantee.

How does the Appliance Protection Policy work?

The Appliance Protection Policy is paid with a monthly direct debit and gives continuous cover for as long as you need it. If you want to cancel within 14 days of entering into the policy, you’ll get a full refund of any payment you’ve made - unless you've already received a replacement product. Unfortunately we can’t offer a refund if you cancel after the 14 days, and if your product’s been replaced under the policy, your Appliance Protection Policy will end automatically.

It’s worth noting that other forms of protection are available from third parties. Home insurance and credit card providers may cover some benefits provided by the Appliance Protection Policy, but they might not cover accidental damage. You might also be charged an excess and any claim might mean that your insurance premium increases.

What are my statutory rights?

You have statutory rights relating to goods you buy from us should a product turn out to be faulty. These rights include the right to claim for a refund, repair, or replacement for up to six years (five in Scotland) if your electrical goods were not of satisfactory quality or fit for their purpose when they were sold to you. After the first six months you will have to prove that the goods had a fault when sold to you and the longer it takes for the fault to appear the more difficult this will be. For further advice on these rights, contact your local authority’s Trading Standards Department or Citizens Advice Bureau.

The appliance Protection Policy is provided by Domestic & General Insurance PLC who is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority; under Financial Services Register Number 202111 which you can view at https://register.fca.org.uk
