"One of the few gas hobs in the UK that I could find has the a double burner at the rear (3.5Kw). This means that if you have an open plan kitchen and like frying hot / searing etc then the smoke and fumes are better extracted as they go straight up the back where on most setups the greatest extraction will be. On most hobs the hottest burner is on the front but most canopies only have actual vents to around 45cm out meaning that rising fumes from the front burners are not as well extracted. Even with a good extractor with my previous hob I still had a fair amount of smell and smoke in the room when frying etc.
Now you will need to accept the inconvenience of doing this at the rear but I suppose one benefit of being further back from children etc. Secondly as the hot burner is rear right rather than rear left it is not as natural for right handed cooks, it would have been nice to have it on the left. I've noticed a greater improvement in extraction on a rear burner.
The spacing of the burners is not as good as the traditional setup with right sided knobs but is probably the best I could find with the front knobbed models (which are nearly universal at the better quality end of the market), you will use the front burners less as the larger pan bottoms come a bit close to the knobs, but this is not an issue for the small burner and a small pan. Some of the other models have the burners centred much closer and this really limits you.
The cast stays are very sturdy and have extra bars on them so moving pans across the hob is done with ease rather than some models that have less supports, even though on the pictures they look initially similar.
The gas burners seem to be "clipped" where the supports are so that the cast isn't getting unnecessarily heated rather than your pans.
Although the rating of the burners is comparable to my last hob it just seems to be quicker to cook on, and the 3.5Kw burner is as hot as I need for searing steaks and stir fry (I was surprised how much of a difference it made to the standard 3Kw large burner of the previous) : I had thought about accepting the front 4Kw or 5Kw front burners available on other makes for the extra power, but ultimately I'm glad I bought the rear one as the power is plenty and I don't have to deal with as much cooking smell.
I was used to continuous knobs and the "flameselect" seemed to be a bit of a gimmick, but actually the knobs just have a gentle click as you turn them in a continuous way, you don't have to push down or anything to move between intensities. They are of some use I suppose: eg for boiling eggs I start on 9 and then move to 4 when boiling to keep a nice controlled boil: that said I wouldn't say they are the amazing as the as the marketing seems to declare. But the knobs are of good quality and nice to turn with thumb grip rather than the less comfortable round grip.
The hob seems to manage to hold almost an impossibly small flame which hasn't went out on me yet... and is far better for simmering in comparison to my previous "run of the mill" hob.
Ideally I would have liked a larger hob but my kitchen really can only accommodate a 60cm. After looking for some time this was the most suitable for my particular needs, I am very satisfied with it. "
