An excellent American style fridge/freezer

"Delighted with it. This scores highly with Which? Magazine for performance which is important to me. Quality of the finishes and build is very high and it comes with a long warranty with ten years on parts! The slightly smaller physical size means it fits into our cottage kitchen well and is pretty much flush with the front of the worktop so it doesn’t stick out as others would. Internal space is well over twice the volume of the old fridge and 1.5 times our old freezer. I genuinely couldn’t be happier with it ??"

Partly Good

"Maybe 3½ stars would be fairer and experience might push it to a 4.

Pros:

— It works, and inexpensive compared with most other brands.

— A good, impressive finish, grey-ish stainless steel better than bright silver. We would have preferred white, but that is difficult for find these days in any brand.

— The freezer half maintains my set temperature reasonably well.

— Very quiet: the compressor is virtually silent.

— Ice dispenser works well, though takes some time to fill the bucket.

— Very easy to remove the ice bucket (compared with my last fridge freezer) if, for example, you want a jug full of ice for a party.

— Two nice large boxes for bulky items in both fridge and freezer.

Cons:

— The fridge half does not maintain my set temperature well. We drink a lot of milk, and like it cold, so I've set it to 2 degrees C, but it rarely gets below 5 (I have an accurate min/max thermometer and tested it carefully over several days) nor does it recover very quickly after stocking the shopping, even on the super-cool setting.

— Not enough shelves for both freezer and fridge (only 3 in each compartment) and not enough brackets to rearrange spaces between to our satisfaction.

— When first installed, the water dispenser dripped after use. This seems to have stopped now, but the water is never very cold. We get colder water from our tap! Need to add ice for cold water.

— the steel panels were entirely covered with thin transparent plastic, which took an age to peel off. Some areas could not be removed, because things like hinges had been fixed over the plastic covered panel. Not a major issue, but annoying at the time. If left on, of course, protective plastic like this quickly becomes nicked and scratched and looks awful.

— Our biggest concern is that two days ago the freezer spontaneously defrosted at night while we were asleep. Water had leaked onto the kitchen floor. However, at some point the freezer had started freezing again, so the ice in the ice bucket was a solid mass of ice cubes and water on shelves was solid. Lengthy discussions with Haier service department resulted in no explanation; apparently it is not a known fault and they couldn't hazard a guess for the reasons, especially since the freezer came back on again. They offered to come out, but since the freezer was working properly now, they logged our complaint, and we agreed to monitor things for the time being. We wait in hope that it was a random event that will not be repeated."
