Newworld NW550TSIDLM Gas Cooker - Silver

4.5 / 5 (35 reviews)

Traditional cooking made very easy. Newworld have crafted a very concise freestanding cooker in the NW550TSIDLM_SI. You get the precision and power of gas throughout the whole cooker and the variable grill is a real plus (and great for sausage butties on a Sunday). The oven is 42 litres in usable space so it’s fine for couples or small families, however you do get the benefit of 24 extra litres of space in the separate grill compartment.

Disappointed

"Interesting to read other comments as I've found the same thing - particularly with the heat from the top oven on the control knobs - these will peel off in time and the plastic underneath splits the knob in half. Just to add insult to injury the model is updated and replacement knobs are not available.... meaning you have to buy a whole new cooker. Piezo is very obstinate, it's important to keep the hob area clean or you will get very...... cross is probably apt in this context. I've had a new world cooker twice before - the latest one which I've had for three years is now suffering badly and I'm looking for a new one but - as the title suggests, I'm very disappointed that the basic design of this cooker is essentially unchanged. Definitely a case of caveat emptor......."

Works well. Looks smart.

Pros: Ease to use, Looks good

Cons: Expensive

"Very happy with this cooker. I had limited choice as I required this narrower size. It looks smart, easy to use. Handy oven light. "

Excellent Service

Pros: Ease to use, Good build quality, Looks good

Cons: Expensive

"This is a good but basic Cooker. I didn't buy the cooker for myself, but wanted a good solid easy to use and 'no frilly extras' cooker, which was just what we got. Service from ao.com was 1st class. Well recommended."

Just dreadful and potentially unsafe

Cons: Badly designed, Flimsy, Poorly constructed, Expensive, Poor quality

"I moved from a house without gas so needed a new cooker. Did my homework and this had some good reviews. Having owned this for six months, I find this completely baffling as this is easily the worst cooker I have ever used.

The build quality is dreadful. Everything about it feels flimsy and poorly constructed. I had to tighten all the screws on the doors and handles just to stop them rattling around. There are also gaps between many of the panels, some of which are big enough that you can see inside the cooker. The lid makes a dreadful noise each time you close it, making a "crack" like the glass is going to smash. The clock timer is also incredibly cheap with wobbly plastic buttons and the bare minimum features.

The worst part is the design, which to my mind, borders on dangerous. For starters, so many corners have been cut with this that it does not even include a grill handle - it is sold separately! If that wasn't outrageous enough, the asking price, for what is essentially a bent piece of metal, is £17.99. I actually managed to buy a whole new grill pan with handle from the local hardware shop for less than this. Secondly, the controls get scorching hot when using the oven and especially the grill, which is just ridiculous. The top of the hob is also laid out so badly that the pans wobble around while you are cooking.

As for the actually cooking. The hob works fine (once you have balanced something on it), the grill is also ok, if a little slow. The oven is quite bad, burning everything on the top level with all other levels take an age.

I would not recommend anyone touches this cooker with a barge pole. As I said, I am used to electric so the only explanation I can come up with for this getting good reviews is that all gas cookers are like this, however I find this pretty hard to believe."
