Teething troubles overcome.

"At first, the TV refused to show UHD content from our SkyQ box which was functioning quite happily with our previous TV for five years. The HD picture seemed rather odd too. AO transferred me through to Philips who explored various avenues for a few days. Eventually, it was made to work and is now fine.

Unfortunately, some functionality has disappeared in the five years since we bought the last one and it was important to me, hence four rather five stars. Previously, there has been a separate volume setting for the headphone socket, but now, instead of being able to mute the speakers and still get sound via the phones you have to plug and unplug the heaphones from the socket.

I've been using wireless headphones since the mid-90s in order to watch without disturbing anyone else, and it's annoying that I can't do that easily any more. The only reason I can imagine they'd change that is because somebody thought it no longer necessary as they expect everyone to pair Bluetooth headphones.

On the plus side, it followed the principle that the price of consumer electronics goes down, being 50% cheaper than its predecessor and a third the price of its HD ancestor!

Beware! If you never had Ambilight before, you will not want to go back. Currently, Philips are plugging Ambilight again, a couple of years ago there was very little choice so bear in mind that those things change.

I don't have anything to say about set up, other than why the default for turning the TV on when a connected device starts should be off seems a bit daft. We've only used satellite for thirty years (!) so I can't comment on channel set up as we don't have an aerial plugged in. Netflix and Prime apps work fine, but didn't try any others as I get the ones I want via Netflix on Sky. I've never liked the Android interface so haven't tried casting, nor have I ever found a use for it, so not tested.

Summing up, if you've had a previous Philips with Ambilight, you might also find the settings a problem, if this is your first then just pretend I gave it five stars and enjoy!"
