Great TV but with a few niggles

"This review is for the 55 inch model. From what I have read models in the same range that have smaller screens may have a different display panel. Great picture quality given the right video inputs such as found on the UK HD channels and the SD channels by the main UK broadcasters (BBC, ITV, CH4 and Ch5). It's a pity that the quality of some of the lesser broadcast programs are not that great but no TV can make a silk purse from a sows ear. The picture setup out of the box was just about correct for my viewing which is mainly broadcast/streaming TV rather than gaming.

This set replaced a 12 year old flat panel HD LCD and the difference is like chalk and cheese.

I mainly use this TV with an external combined satellite and terrestrial box and only a few "free" smart services, but those I have tried work well.

The TV comes with two remotes one of which has rechargeable batteries which can use a USB C cable or inbuilt solar cell. On mine the solar cell doesn’t seem to do much and the remote has to be charged via the cable. The TV reports the state of the charge. Charging (or lack of) via the solar panel seems to be a common question on the web and it’s unclear if the purpose of the solar is a trickle slow top-up or can be used for a full charge. However, my remote doesn’t seemed to have come off the 100% charge mark in a week of usage and after being initially charged.

A few trivial niggles.

One of the screen settings keeps reverting to Auto. This does not make any difference to normal viewing but as I use an external box and select the menu on the box some of the menu overlay is outside of the picture area. On (most) TVs the fix is to disable overscan but when on this TV selecting this option it works for a while and then on coming out of standby sometimes gets switched back to an auto setting.

Privacy! When you first set up the TV you will probably say OK to the generic terms and conditions. When checking later the privacy settings in the vendors list you will find that you have accepted the T&C for very many hundreds of third party advertisers and content providers. On the same screen the only option is to reject each one individually which could take you many hours – perhaps a day! Come out of that screen and return to the terms and privacy menu option and you will find a couple of items misleadingly titled “I consent to interest based adverting” etc. Actually this is where you can untick the consent box to remove accepting the T&C for the hundreds of advertisers in one go. I’m sure that this type of consent to T&C feature is common on all smart TVs irrespective of manufacturer."

Magnificent Screen

"Magnificent screen, went from a 8yo old plasma to this, i am blown away. Not only the 4K resolution but it’s the HDR that is mindblowing, makes such a difference. Highly Recommended."
