Quality Android TV at Reasonable Price

"I was looking for an Android TV to sync with Google Home and with a 4K display to upgrade from my previous 1080p and have been very happy with the purchase.

The user interface is simple and easy to use and has a number of streaming services added as standard (Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, iPlayer, etc.) as well as web browser and Google Play store for more (this will not give all phone/tablet apps, just those that are compatible with TV) - this covers the most used features in my household but it would be nice ITV, CH4, CH5 & UKTV apps were available too - sideloading of apps is possible but works better with the download of a different browser & file explorer and they won't all work well (many will load sideways and not be selectable with the standard remote).

The back of the remote features a qwerty keyboard which is fantastic for searching YouTube, etc. and is very responsive. There is a dedicated Netflix button included which launches the app extremely quickly no matter what you are doing with the TV before pressing. The smartphone remote app works okay but could do with some improvements and a facelift.

Google Home integration is not perfect, if won't turn the set on or off but can mute/adjust the volume (very handy when tied up with a baby about to fall asleep, or on the phone with the remote misplaced!), and also do YouTube searches. I get the impression that the available integration will grow but there is no confirmation of this.

The ambilight feature (lights around the back of the display which can be set to light as the audio or video changes) isn't massively useful for general use but is a nice gimmick - if you have your lights out when watching is can add to the atmosphere to the experience.

Overall the physical product is great quality, with excellent yet simple features on the remote making it more of a stand out part than with a lot of TV's. The Android software makes the TV stand out more than most other smart systems and it should only improve over time. Would definitely recommend."

Hard to beat for the price

"This TV is a bit of a budget hero, ambilight is great and I think it adds to the viewing experience feels weird watching my non ambilight TV.

On HDR Game mode the blacks do suffer a little but input lag seems decent I mostly play non competitive games on my big screen.

HDR is good it's not quite got the same punch as higher end sets but I play in a games room where the lighting is fairly subdued and its prefect for that.

Out of the box calibration is quite poor needs some tweaks and most of the image procesing turned off to get the most out of it but when it's setup right the picture is awesome considering the price.

Audio is OK nothing amazing lacks any real bass but a decent 2.1 soundbar is worth looking into.

Android OS is also nice can pretty much add any streaming or catchup services you want also runs IPTV apps very well.

Overall highly recommended "

Great for the price.

"This is a VA type panel which differs slightly from the more common IPS. The theory goes that VA offers a better contrast over IPS, at the trade off for narrower viewing angles. It also offers direct backlighting (thicker panel), as opposed to the more common edge lit, so it should offer better light uniformity. In other words this panel does things a bit differently to most panels on the market. There are certain trade offs to be had for the design decisions made on this TV; Simply put if you don't intend to sit off angle & can afford not to have the most ultra slim panel, then this combination should be a great mid-range compromise!

With the theory out of the way, I found the viewing angles to indeed be very touchy. This is more pronounced in dark scenes, or scenes of graduated blacks and shadows. In these scene certain conditions, even directly in front of the panel, a slight left to right bob of the head can effect the details revealed within the picture.

The clarity and sharpness of this panel is stunning, as are the colours. Though to get optimum results I would suggest a little experimentation with the preset profiles.

Not being a huge fan of too much image processing & for the most accurate reproduction I would suggest putting the picture settings into 'movie' mode and tweaking the contrast/brightness/colour from that profile.

For some reason my external HDMI media player requires the brightness to be notched up further than the internal viewing sources of the TV. I am yet to find a way to 'personalise' a picture profile for a certain source. It can possibly be achieved, but I have not yet found a way.

Ambilight is a nice feature to have but can be distracting all the time, just for day to day general viewing. I think it does have the ability to enhance the overall viewing experience for some content, I can't wait to try live music and gig broadcasts!

The sound on this TV is thin but clear. With the warmth of bass somewhat lacking. Changing the sound setting to 'music' will provide a little enhanced warmth, but don't expect to be blown away. Most (myself included) will opt to connect to external /Hi-Fi speakers anyway!

Despite a few niggles, overall I am mega impressed to pick up a 50" during an offer, though at full price I think I might be considering my options further.

Brilliant TV packed with additional features

"I bought the Philips TV in the Black Friday sale after much deliberation. For a similar price I compared Samsung, LG and Sony TVs however after reading reviews and speaking to some friends decided to go for the Philips 7300 series and I’m glad I did. The build quality feels great and aesthetically the TV looks good in the living room. The picture quality is superb and the ambient light is a great talking point. The TV is packed with great features such as the android tv platform which lets you download apps from google store, the remote had two faces one with a querty keyboard making it easier to type on the YouTube app, the remote also has a voice recognition feature linked to google. It is also worth noting that the software or operating system is quick and easy to navigate. All in all I would give the Philips 7383 10/10 I’m a very happy customer. "
