OK but flawed

"I was looking at this tv and also the related Philips 55PUS6753. That one is the next size up but a level down in specs, the 6000 series. Technical reviews say the 7000 series is supposed to have slightly better picture quality and a faster P5 picture processing engine. The biggest bugbear I have is that whilst it comes with BBC IPlayer, there's no built in ITVPlayer (STVPlayer in Scotland), 4OnDemand or Five. There's also no Freeview Freeplay. The 6000 series has all of these features so I don't know why 7000 series does not. If these don't matter to you then the tv should be fine, better looking design than the Asian brands and gets good reviews. Set up was easy enough despite other reviews commenting about that. "

Unbelievable TV, much better than the 6700 series

"Much better than the 6703 series I had previous. Even the 6703 was an unreal TV but the 7383 just blows it out of the water. I knew as soon as I turned it on the immediate picture quality difference. Android TV runs great on it. Only issue is the WiFi takes about an additional 10-20 seconds to connect after booting, so if you launch YouTube or Netflix straight away the TV gets confused and you have to force close the apps. Also preferred the darker metallic frame of the 6703 as opposed to the light silver frame on this one which appears white when the light hits it. This is me being picky though. Would highly recommend otherwise"

Great value and quality set, with Philips USP

"This TV is fairly thin and very attractive, has a 2 year manufacturer's warranty, which is nice for the £450 I paid in a Boxing Day sale.

The Android TV implementation is very good (though the Android TV O/S itself can be quite quirky, this is not the fault of Philips, and is true across other brands). Premium features and connectivity are ideal, and the granular control over quality and image enhancement are good, because the picture needs tweaking for different sources to get the best from the TV.

The remote is heavy and feels good quality, the lack of a tactile index in the middle of the 'OK' button is the only fairly minor irritation - you occasionally end up having to look at your thumb on the button as it inevitably drifts a bit during use.

The unique selling point of this TV is the Ambilight feature however, and it's a really excellent and very worthwhile feature in this latest generation and not a gimmick in my opinion, it really does set Philips apart from every other TV manufacturer.

I do believe it's pretty important to have the TV set back against a flat wall mind you (it would not work well in a corner configuration), mine is wall-mounted against a white wall, which I believe is optimal, although there are colour correction options deep in the settings menu for different wall colours, which is pretty cool.

Overall, based on my brief ownership experience with this TV (only 2 weeks), I'd say that provided it lasts pretty well I would definitely buy another Ambilight set in the future.

I'd knock a star off for the occasional weird visual glitches due to the Android O/S (apps now closing properly, the screen blanking very briefly during viewing) but I'm aware niggling O/S issues aren't actually down to Philips and is actually common of all Android TV devices at times.

Overall it's worth any extra hassle because of the flexibility and future expandability of Android TV that no proprietary O/S can realistically offer. So yeah, I'll give it five stars."

Philips Ambilight *****

"I bought the tv as I’ve just bought a new home. It looks great on the wall with back light and the picture is superb. Brilliant value for money and chuffed with it! "
