A step away from brilliance?

"The best way I can describe this appliance is like a squad of very talented footballers who are expected to win a league with absolutely no management. That is a very unlikely occurrence. Equally from the use of this washer dryer I have learnt that this machine has an exceptional level of washing and drying features but they cannot be easily accessed or understood because the appliance is crying out for a very friendly user interface that allows one to select, direct and manage the machine's myriad of different settings. It is frightening in fact that the machine came with little to no instruction manual and you are have to in fact install an app on your mobile phone in order to find them (they can be found after clicking an icon in the bottom left corner of the app's home page). This app all also allows you to control the machine using wi-fi which to be fair I was able to set up with some ease. Granted I am comfortable with doing this I could not foresee someone elderly or tech averse doing this at all. However once you do have the app it is a dreadful experience because it is simply not easy enough to navigate the options for your intended wash or dry setting. In the end I actually found little use for controlling the machine using my phone and I found it be a gimmick. The only advantage I could think of is if you were away all day or a weekend and didn't want washed and dried clothes sitting in the machine you could time the machine to finish as you arrive home. I am not sure how much of an advantage that is really save for preventing creasing. That said there is a function on the machine that removes creases from clothes that have sat too long called refresh which appears useful though we have not had the need to use it yet. So that means I struggle to find any advantages of using your mobile phone/app which is already difficult enough. The other way then to set your washing and drying is by directly using the single circular dial with an inset narrow display. This is is a whole other issue with the machine's negative points. You turn the dial to symbols meaning something that is not indicated anywhere in the documents that came with the machine (are on the instructions found using the app) and once figured out you then have to select one option at a time (which also have different meanings that you will need the instructions from the app for - you will have to look at your phone while simultaneously setting!) while waiting for the ludicrously long words to pan across an incredibly short visual display. It's a bit like when you're at the doctor looking at those long health messages panning across display when you're looking out for your name. It's all very time consuming and frustrating to be frank when a larger display or shorter words that can be read instantly would have sufficed. Nobody has time for this especially not I would think a working mum with children and a house to manage. However as I started the review I did say that I believe this washer dryer could be brilliant because of its excellent features such as express washing and drying (called 'Zoom' if you ever figure out how to set it) and the Refresh (as above) to name but a few. In terms of cleaning clothes and drying on the basic settings we required I can state it did the job very well in a short space of time meaning it was both economical and time saving. It is also quite quiet when in operation and is impressive with its sleek and minimalist looks, although perhaps being so minimal it has foregone being friendly to the user. This machine however is simply not intuitive. You cannot just start using it or figure it out as you would many other washing machines and dryers - you may accidentally it but you may have picked the wrong setting or function. Remember after working out how to use it you will then also have to precisely teach whoever else wants to use the machine because of this. I think if one has a lot of time, patience and is tech savvy they will get to grips with it and eventually, but who knows how long, become comfortable with using it. As it stands because it is so difficult to use I would not recommend it to anyone save a maybe one or two people who I think would fit a niche of people that this machine lends itself too.

One other thing and I'm not sure if it is a safety feature but at the end of cycles, particularly dry, you can't just open the door and have to wait an inordinate length of time, which is very impractical. If one was in a rush to get their clothes out for any reason this could be very problematic. "

Candy Bianca Washer Dryer BWD596PH3 Review

"I have had this washing Dryer now for a few days so i have had time now to get used to how it works and all the functions of the machine itself. The Candy washer Dryer itself looks very attractive, it is very minimalist and good looking with just one large blue illuminated dial on the right hand side of the machine the door is also quite large.

The main functions of the machine took a bit of getting used to as there was no instruction manual that came with it, i have to download it via the candy simplyfi app.

Once i had figured out the main wash functions the machine was very simple to use and was very very quite in operation. Clothes themselves washed very well and with the added option to use the steam function aided in the clothes coming out less creased.

The dryer side of things also worked very well, it dried clothes to a good standard and in good time.

When it comes to the wifi option this was a bit more complicated. I download the app from the google play store and installed, it then had a little trouble scanning the devices QR code to register the machine, but after a few attempts it eventually worked. Wifi was setup really easy. When it came to using the app you would select your wash options via the app click start and it was off, keeping me informed throughout the cycle. BUT this did not happen every time sometime the app would not even realise that the machine was there and connected to the same wifi network. For me the app is an added extra i probably wont use. Overall the machine is fantastic and i would recommend it to everyone that like the minimalistic look. THanks"

Confusing to use, yet washes & drys well

"Even though I am quite happily using this machine now (happy because I got it free of charge for reviewing!), I would generally not recommend it! Becoming familiar with the programs will take a while, and the wi-fi feature is very erratic. I tried the app from Google Play and Apple, one would work one day and the other would work the other day. The Apple app acted very strangely, and I also preferred the lady's voice on the Google Play one. There were spelling mistakes in the apps as well. Don't even try voice programming unless you're willing to get annoyed! The apps though will let you set programs just by screen selection. Additionally for some reason when drying clothes the machine and app continuously displays that there is only one minute left. Half the time I found that even though the machine would be in the correct wi-fi setting it wouldn't connect to the app, so I had to resort to setting it manually (which was more confusing). I certainly wouldn't recommend this machine to those not very familiar (and patient) with technology.

If buying this machine also prepare yourself for having to always turn the machine off and on again at the mains in order to open the door. Also for some reason the door will seem to lock and unlock a few times before unlocking.

The instruction leaflet (not manual) is overly simplistic. I had to search and download a more detailed manual to describe the functions to me.

I've completed most of the washing/drying cycles now though and I'm very satisfied with the washing & drying quality. It's as shame the machine is so difficult to use."

Great Machine for families and tech heads!

"Even my 'unimpressed with everything' teenage boys loved the sleek design of Bianca. We immediately downloaded the 'Simply-Fi' app to our phones in order to be able to set the machine and talk to Bianca herself! We also downloaded the manual. I can appreciate that some people weren't too happy about having to do this but it's easier to keep on the tablet than stuffed in a drawer somewhere I feel.

Our early experiences with Bianca mirrored our early days with Alexa (Amazon Echo), in that she didn't understand a word we were saying and was a bit obscure in her answering! However, with some practise and gentle persuasion, we managed to coax her to start our chosen program and a huge load of bedding went in the very expansive drum. The wash seemed quick and quiet (so quiet I went to check on it at one point) and the following drying phase was also efficient and very quiet.

For load #2, we decided to program the setting through the app. It takes a little bit of getting used to and could be a bit complicated for someone who doesn't get on well with tech but I like that you can choose which settings you'd like from the comfort of your armchair and then press 'play' and the machine is off. You even receive a notification to your phone when the cycle is finished - I'm toying with downloading the app to everyone's phone so they all get the notification and might take out the washing....and hang it up....no, probably a waste of time!

Load #3 was programmed in the conventional way, using the dial on the front of the machine. It is easy to understand and there are lots of different options to match the kind of wash you want (720 to be precise) and even a 'Zoom' function which completes a wash in under an hour!

Loading and unloading is easy, thanks to the huge door size.

Overall, we're impressed with the cool look of the machine and our tech mad teenagers love the gadget element, although not enough to actual take an active part in their own laundry.

So far, consistent and impressive results from all the functions we've tried (may take a while to get through all 720!)"

I wouldn't bother...

"Firstly I'm writing this review because I've had to send the machine back due to various issues.

The door lock is temperamental and will not unlock at the end of a cycle you need to switch the machine on and off several times.

I was given an error code while drying and the machine just stopped and I had to switch it on and off at the mains.

I bought this machine based on the features in particular the smart control via the candy app. The app itself seems pretty decent and its easy to work the machine this way. However the app worked once or twice then refused to talk to the machine meaning I had to used the controls on the machine.

I had this for a week and a half I could not find half of the programme on the machine that were available in the app including the 15/30/45 min quick washes.

The Zoom function was good as this allowed any programme to be shorted to 59 minutes but it couldn't be selected if the machine was already running.

Overall the machine washed and dried well enough and it was very quiet, but it was not user friendly in the slightest and the features used to sell it don't work. So I would suggest you look elsewhere. "
