Fridgemaster MCF95 Chest Freezer

"So, the Fridgemaster MCF95 Chest freezer...to start it's a very light appliance. It's no trouble to manoeuvre it around ready to unpack. When the packaging has been removed, there is a basic amount which is great. You're not going to fill your bins!

Once in place there are two levelling feet on the left hand side, you're only really going to get it to sit firmly rather than perfectly level if your floor is wonky. But it's simple to get into place and remember to leave the right amount of space around the freezer particularly on the right hand side as there is a large vent.

On opening the freezer you'll find instructions and a handle that needs simply fixing onto the face of the door. I think this is probably optional as there are two finger grooves either side of the door too. While the door is open, leave it so for about an hour to let it air and give it a quick wipe over as per instructions.

Once plugged in I left it to chill for 24 hours. I was impressed at the noise level, it's very quiet. No loud humming or gassy noises to be heard.

I'll be using this to store batch cooked foods. This freezer will hold roughly thirty of my standard size food tubs which is great! In shopping bag terms, around five so it's a very good size for what seems a small appliance. It also has a single basket so items can be easily reached if needed. Useful for ice cream/cubes etc.

It's rated A+ energy efficient which isn't bad, I roughly worked out a cost per week of 35p.

Temperature is easily controlled by a dial on the front of the appliance, a simple left to right, cold to colder dial.

Now the only downside is that its a manual defrost. It doesn't matter to me so much as there may be times when it's empty and turned off so I can do it then so it may be worth thinking about if it's going to be in use constantly. But there is a drain plug located on the front to get rid of water easily after a defrost.

If it's ever without power, food is safe in there for 24 hours.

Overall it a cracking appliance, exactly what we need from a chest freezer. It looks good and does the job!"

Great and simple

"This is a case of it does what it needs to do. Great value for money and if you want a small chest freezer then this is absolutely perfect.

It's small enough to hide away wherever you want yet holds quite a bit of food. There's a basket inside to hold things closer to the top and unfortunately there is no light inside but apart from that it's absolutely perfect.
