So Quiet, Great Results

"The machine was easy to install (did it myself), looked modern and sleek. The door felt solid and didn't flop down if released. It came with a waste pipe which is connected at the back, a water inlet pipe, which is only a metre long and quite thin and a detachable power cable. There are three trays, one being the top one for cutlery, then two others. The cutlery tray does remove quite easily, once you have the knack. The middle shelf will adjust in height to fit taller glasses. If anything this is the only criticism I have about the dishwasher - the trays didn't seem to slide smoothly and I'm still not sure about a tray for the cutlery. I get that by not having a basket for the cutlery means you have more room for pots and pans on the bottom tray, but find it fiddlier to use.

There was a quick reference guide to get your started on which programmes to use. There is also a display on the top of the door which lists the programmes. The front of the door is where the display panel is along with the programme buttons which are set flush into the door - no protruding buttons. The display panel is black with red LED lights to indicate what has been selected. The programmes were easy to work out and I selected one which I think I will use the most.

There are a couple of extra function buttons which are the VarioSpeed Plus - this option can reduce the running time of a programme.

Hygiene plus – this function increases the temperatures which creates a more sterilisation effect.

Extra dry – the final rinse uses a higher temperature which improves the drying result.

Machine care – use this when the dishwasher requires cleaning of limescale and grease. Requires a suitable cleaning detergent.

I fully loaded the dishwasher with a variety of dishes, glasses and pan and switched it on to find that it was very quiet indeed. It could easily be fitted in an open plan kitchen area as is so quiet. The dishes came out really clean.

All in all I would recommend this appliance to someone who wanted a good looking dishwasher, which was very quiet, washed well but didn't need it to be integrated."

Fantastic Cleaning – Still getting used to the cutlery tray

"When deciding on a dishwasher, there isn’t much between the range of available models. The simple factor of price versus does it clean the dishes pretty much sums up my requirements. Nevertheless, some of the subtle features which I found from this Bosch Serie 4 dishwasher certainly make for a varied yet positive dishwashing routine.

The machine functions are very simple to become familiar with, only requiring the quick start guide to become ofay with the breadth of programmes and functions. The buttons are clearly labelled without the need to decipher a dictionary of symbols before setting it off! Initially I was somewhat taken aback by the first programme display duration as the majority indicate between the 2.5-3 hour cycle, however, after finding the shorter programme setting, the cycle duration became much more favourable.

Setting up the machine was very simple as I opted to do it myself. The machine comes with the usual pipes which you come to expect with all machines such as the waste water pipe and clean water pipe meaning that the machine was ready to use immediately. The clean water pipe is a very slim line pipe by comparison to my previous machine and the machine does appear to fill slower as a result. The power cable is detachable at the back of the machine which means no more suffering with a plug dragging behind the machine when moving it around.

The outside of machine is aesthetically pleasing with sleek contemporary designs and symmetry in the buttons. It features a black digital display with red digital numbers to indicate the programme duration and three indicator LEDs underneath. Inside the machine are three trays; the lower for crockery, the middle for cups and glasses and the top draw specifically for cutlery. The middle and lower draws have a few adjustable racks for a variety of tableware. There is plenty of room inside the machine and the absence of a cutlery basket which I had on my previous dishwasher makes for much more space in the lower drawer. It does take a little getting used to as it takes a little longer to correctly align each piece of cutlery into the grooves. There isn’t an abundance of room for larger pieces of cutlery or cooking utensils so they have to be located elsewhere. Mildly annoying but nothing which I can’t get used to.

The middle drawer has enough space for 5 rows by 5 columns of glasses however, due to the cutlery drawer above, larger glasses have to be placed to the outermost of the drawer otherwise they get caught. Again, a little inconvenient as I only really use large pint size glasses so again, these have to be placed either on the lower drawer to ensure they have enough room or to the sides.

The lower draw has plenty of space and as mentioned, the absence of a cutlery basket means I can make a lot better use of the space provided. It has four adjustable racks which have a variety of configurations and are easily arranged.

On the first few cycles which I ran, I had to restart the machine as I didn’t think it was running when I set it off. In actual fact, the machine fills and runs so quietly that I initially mistook it for malfunctioning. To my surprise, this wasn’t even on the silent setting either!

The most important factor is ofcourse how the machine actually cleans and I’m happy to report that it does a fantastic job. I’ve ran most of the programmes through and even on the shorter cycles, the machine doesn’t fail to leave every item spotlessly clean.

Overall, this is machine is very simple to setup, operate and leaves dishes perfectly clean. It runs whisper quiet and has very easily programmable cycles meaning that it can be set to whatever the requirement. There are a few ‘design ideas’ which are less that optimal such as the space allowance for utensils in the cutlery drawer and middle drawer however, these can easily be learned to live with.
