"Our old microwave started to crumble, with paint flaking away and some ominous noises during cooking, so I did some homework and decided I wanted a flatbed microwave. Fewer moving parts would mean easier cleaning and less noise as well as one less thing to go wrong.
With surprisingly few flatbeds on the market - at least non-commercial and freestanding - I reckoned the Hotpoint was the best of those on offer.
Ordered through AO, and was delighted that they could give me a choice of delivery slots, including free delivery if I didn’t mind waiting a few days. There was also a ‘take the old one away’ option, which I was happy to pay for as we live on a farm miles from anywhere, so disposing of the old machine would have been inconvenient to say the least.
Delivery was exactly as promised, with the driver calling ahead to make sure he could find us. Friendly and helpful, the new machine was handed over and the old one taken away for recycling.
The Hotpoint is a beautiful machine; sleek and black. It’s a doddle to set up, and was put to work straight away. Having no turntable means you can put larger dishes and irregular sized containers in without problems, and while it says it’s a 24l microwave it has as much usable space inside as a 30l turntable machine so opening the door reveals what looks like a cavernous expanse.
It’s not silent, but much quieter than the old grinding turntable version, and what can I say...it works!
Warming up, defrosting, cooking, all done efficiently and as stated in the handbook, with no nasty surprises like half frozen and half cooked, which I’ve had even with a turntable.
There are some dishes that will need turning halfway through, but it’s a small price to pay for a truly efficient and effective microwave!"
