Budget heat pump dryer worth the money

"Along with our new baby came a lot of extra laundry. I never liked the idea of dryers when fresh air and the washing line were on offer but British weather and needs must, so we looked at a few models and bought this one over other offerings for three reasons.

1. It was the cheapest dryer with heat pump technology offering a significant energy saving compared with cheaper condenser dryers. A++ compared to C on average.

2. The depth of this model was slimmer than other brands at 54cm but it should be noted that although the casing depth is 54cm, the overall depth for a flush fit requires a space of 58cm.

3. This model was considerably cheaper than offerings from other brands without appearing to lack any of the functionality.

Overall, this has been a good purchase. The programs on offer are varied and cover a wide range of options but drying varied article types together can cause the sensor to finish the cycle early and the level of dryness doesn't always correspond with my expectations. For example, cupboard dry should - in my opinion - be just that: no moisture residue. I usually have to finish the drying on extra dry to achieve the results I want but that is my expectation.

I wouldn't classify it as quiet. I have the unit freestanding in an open space and there is a fair amount of noise from both the articles in the drum and the machine itself. If situated in a modern kitchen appliance space, it may be quieter by being boxed in but unlike a washing machine, these are on the equivalent of a slow spin all the time. The rated db measurement is probably without the noise of the laundry.

It's really easy to use and clean and saves a lot of time. Towels in particular, are rejuvenated. We live in a hard water area and line drying towels slowly turned them abrasive. The dryer makes them soft, fluffy and usable again.

So overall, for us, the pros far outweigh the cons."

Good for energy saving but comes with compromises

"If you're interested in saving energy this technology is great but it's not as effective at drying as traditional models. Clothes sometimes are still wet so it's required to go on again, and it takes a long time (3 hours in some cases).

A very stylist machine though. "

Excellent so far

"I bought this tumble dryer to replace a Hotpoint model that was deemed a fire risk. My initial impression is that this is a far superior machine, it is quieter, more cost-effective, quicker drying time and far less heat is generated from it (in fact very little.) I'm a great fan of Bosch products and was initially way of the Beko make, as yet I have no regrets whatsoever, seems a great machine."

Good but not good enough

"We've just purchased the BEKO DHR73431W after much deliberation. This will be our third tumble dryer in the last 20 years and so far it's proving to be the worst one. It's built well and looks good but don't be fooled by the specification and the looks. Having now used this machine for a few days we have found a number of issues. Anti crease feature does not work at all cloths are very creased. Cloths are still damp even using the driest plus setting. All in all we are very disappointed with this tumble dryer. Will be contacting the manufacturer to replace or get a refund. "

Beko dryer

"This dryer is fantastic! I am smitten with it. The design is beautiful and in comparison to my old dryer (a 10 year old whirlpool condenser) it is unbelievably quiet and pumps out next to no heat! The display is lovely and the time remaining self adjusts accordingly. I love that the reservoir is at the top left and not right down at the bottom. The drum is a decent size for a small family of 3. It dries towels beautifully as well as bed sheets and clothes and the clothes don't get ruined in any way. Overall, am smitten and it was a great purchase!"
