"We purchased this fridge to replace a fabulous Smeg Fridge Freezer that gave us no problems in over 13 years. Unfortunately this fridge didn’t quite live up to the same standard.
It is a beautiful looking appliance but unfortunately the quality is a bit of a let down.
The minibar is a nice idea but is flimsy and I can imagine lots of problems with this well beyond the warranty period. Within the first few months the back of this enclosure came loose and had to be fixed under warranty.
Within the first 6 months the appliance stopped working -both the fridge and freezer stopped maintaining their temperature. Smeg were very good at getting a repair organised but the appliance was still not repaired following several parts being changed. In the end the appliance was returned.
The ice maker also stopped dispensing properly within the first 6 months. I mentioned to the Engineer that it was virtually impossible to lift out the ice bucket and he found the same. Upon closer inspection he said the catch was faulty and as a result, this caused part of the internal mechanism to break.
The touch panel is also not very responsive.
I also hated the eco mode which meant the display only came on when the doors were opened. The annoying door open alarm came on within seconds of leaving the door open.
Capacity is not great either for a fridge of this size.
I really wished the build quality on this had been like my previous Smeg but unfortunately it just wasn’t.
You only get a 2 year warranty with this so that’s worth considering when there are other manufacturers giving 5 years."

"Exactly what I ordered, but the door for the milk (clever energy saving idea) feels flimsy and worried about it durability.
The push panel to choose ice water or crushed ice not very responsive and again feels flimsy"

"The Smeg American fridge is beautifully quiet, and has a good capacity. When it comes to build quality, the product is really let down. The water dispenser drips for a short while after dispensing water, so the drip tray is constantly full. The control to change from water to whole ice to crushed ice simply doesn't work the first, or second time, so becomes frustratingly unattractive to use. When opening the door, the light comes on gradually, which is beautuful, but means you have to wait that split second before you can see what you want. Overall a really good fridge, just let down by a careless build quality."

"If you are considering upgrading your current fridge freezer, look no further. We have had this for 2 weeks now, and still have not managed to half fill either the fridge or freezer compartments!!!
The dispenser system was a doddle to plumb in, and hooks straight up to a standard cold water washing machine/dishwasher connector, and has the ability to dispense ice cold water, ice cubes, and even crushed ice.
Moving the fridge freezer is also very easy, due to the wheels on the underside, and although these are present, it doesn't move around when using normally.

"this is a great looking appliance, does everything required but the ice maker seems to jam easily and is a nightmare to remove and again to put back together. It is so difficult for a small woman to do this task that if I had known that I would have this problem then I would not have bought it."
