induction hob

"This is so nice to use. I have never used an induction hob before but I am impressed by how easy to use this is. It took me a little while to remember how to raise the heat but I now do it without thinking. The only down side is that I had to buy a new set of pans and give my almost new ones to my daughter"

Excellent replacement for Ceramic Hob

"Easy to unpack, no unnecessary packaging. The unit is much lighter than my old Ceramic hob and therefore relatively easy to offer up to the aperture in my worktop. The Stoves unit is slightly larger than the old one and required a bit of cutting into the worktop to allow it to sit correctly. The width was right, but I had to take 10mm off the length. If you’re a moderate DIY’er then it’s quite easy with a Jigsaw. The depth was also slightly more on the Stoves unit, something to bear in mind if you have cupboards or an oven below as there’s a minimum clearance required for cooling.

Once installed into the worktop it came to connecting the electrical supply. The terminals are located at the back of the unit and only have a cable inlet on one side. It’s probably safest to get an electrician in to connect if in any doubt. The terminals offer lots of room to work with and once the cable clamp is in place and the cover is on it feels very secure. Note: cable is not supplied.

With the unit now fitted I could see a dramatic improvement over the previous ceramic hob. The Stoves unit sits slightly proud of the worktop, but not too much to be noticeable. It’s a clean looking device and the glass surface feels of good quality, with rounded edges and a solid feel to it.

I initially tested the device with a cast iron Le Creuset Grillit pan and a small amount of water. Within seconds the water was beginning to bubble and, with the hob on full power, was soon up to boiling point. I’ve used this pan on gas and electric ceramic before and it takes ages to heat up. The heat controls are responsive and easy to use once you get used to having touch sensitive buttons instead of a dial.

Some of my existing pans were not compatible, but I’ve found a lot of good deals online to replace them with induction compatible, dishwasher safe and non-stick.

The glass surface keeps some residual heat from the pans which is hot to touch but not excessively, and it soon cools down. It’s very easy to clean the whole surface, with no danger of accidentally turning it on.

Overall I think the Stoves Induction Hob is a worthwhile investment, especially if you live in an area with no mains gas (as I do). It’s fast, efficient, controllable and actually looks good in my kitchen.
