Britannia Cooker Hood

"This item works extremely well. It is compact and easily fitted. The automatic sensing system is extremely useful as it reduces the time the device is on reducing the cost to use and the amount of time the noise of operation is on.Like most cooker hoods you probably like it to be less noisy, however this is not a major concern for this appliance. Aesthetically pleasing with easy to use controls."

Profit margin stares you in the face

"This is a powerful extractor and looks good. But

1: Fitting it into a typical kitchen cupboard (IKEA in my case) is not made easy due to the number of bolts and fittings holding components on the inside that stick through the metal body of the cooker hood. There is little more than a quarter of an inch lip on the metal body where it overlaps the hole you cut in the bottom of the wall unit that houses it. Once you make this hole big enough to slide the metal body and it's protruding fittings into the wall unit. the fixing screws have very little material to grip onto. The lip should be at least half an inch wide to facilitate secure fitting with the screws provided. I had to make alternative holes and use longer screws horizontally to ensure the cooker hood did not crash down onto the cooker. This is easy to do however the design and instructions would benefit from improvement and not supplying a paper template to show the correct size hole to cut in a wall unit/cupboard is a major omission - Brittania are not supporting DIY installation.

2 - I was disappointed that the metal body comes with so many holes in it. Clearly a production economy that enables Brittania to use the same metal body for more than one design/model. As a result I had to tape over these unused drillings with duct tape (circa 20 holes) otherwise rather than just pulling air through the filters, it will be pulling air out of the inside of the wall unit as well. In this respect I felt the construction was poor and In persuit of profit margin the manufacturing was second rate leaving the customer to modify it. Really not what I would expect at this price point."
